Caregiver jobs in Detroit and across Michigan

We are a Michigan home care agency with clients in Detroit, Dearborn, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Flint, Lansing and Grand Rapids. Because we serve Medicaid Home Help and MI Choice families as well as private-pay clients, we have steady work in every one of those areas.

Whether you are looking for caregiver jobs in Detroit for the first time or you have years of experience, we have a role that matches your skills and schedule.

Open caregiver roles

Personal care aide

Help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers and mobility in their own homes. This is our most common role and the heart of the personal care assistance we provide under Home Help.

Companion caregiver

Provide conversation, meals, light housekeeping, errands and medication reminders for seniors who live alone. See what the work involves on our companionship care page.

Respite caregiver

Step in for a few hours or a few days so family caregivers can rest. Flexible, often short-notice shifts suit caregivers who want part-time work.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s caregiver

Support clients with memory loss through routine, redirection and safety supervision.

Post-surgery and disability support caregiver

Assist adults recovering from surgery or living with a disability, including transfers, mobility support and daily routines.

Who we hire

We hire two kinds of caregivers, and both are equally valued on our team.

  • Agency caregivers who want scheduled shifts with clients we match them to. Experience is welcome but not required.
  • Family caregivers who already care for a parent, adult child, other relative or friend and want to be paid for it. Michigan’s Home Help program pays you as an individual provider, and we handle the enrollment. Start on our become a paid caregiver page or read our guide to caregiver jobs in Detroit.

Certified nursing assistants, home health aides, nursing students, retirees and career changers all do well here. What matters most is reliability, patience and respect for the people you care for.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old and legally allowed to work in the United States.
  • Pass a criminal background check through MDHHS and not appear on any excluded-provider list.
  • Be physically able to assist with transfers, bathing and mobility.
  • Have reliable transportation to reach clients on time.
  • Complete CHAMPS enrollment and use Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) at every visit. We set both up with you.
  • Communicate clearly and treat every client with dignity.

A CNA or home health aide certificate is a plus but not a requirement. Our post on what disqualifies you from being a caregiver in Michigan explains the background check rules.

Training and support

You are never on your own. Every caregiver receives:

  • Onboarding training in safe transfers, personal care, infection control and client rights.
  • Specialized modules for dementia care, post-surgery recovery and disability support.
  • Hands-on setup of your MiLogin, CHAMPS and EVV accounts, with help fixing errors so pay is not delayed.
  • A care coordinator you can call during shifts, plus backup coverage when you are sick or need time off.
  • Ongoing check-ins and a clear path to more hours or new client types as you gain experience.

Pay and schedule

We are always hiring. Agency caregivers start at $18 per hour, and pay can be higher depending on the role, your experience and your certifications. Family caregivers paid through Home Help receive the MDHHS individual-provider hourly rate for the hours authorized in their loved one’s care plan. You can compare both on our family caregiver pay page.

Shifts range from a few hours a week to full time, including mornings, evenings and weekends. Many caregivers combine a family caregiving assignment with agency shifts to build a full schedule.

Languages we work in

Our clients and staff speak English, Arabic and Spanish. Bilingual caregivers are in especially high demand in Dearborn, Detroit and Sterling Heights, where many families prefer care in their first language. If you speak more than one language, tell us when you apply.

How to apply

  1. Submit the application. Complete the caregiver application form on our become a paid caregiver page, or email your name, city, phone number and a short note about your experience to info@supportivesolutionshomecare.com.
  2. Talk with our team. We call you, usually within a few business days, to learn about your availability, location and the kind of care you want to provide.
  3. Background check and enrollment. We start the MDHHS background check and walk you through CHAMPS and EVV setup.
  4. Training and first assignment. Complete onboarding, meet your care coordinator and start with a client near you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to get a caregiver job in Detroit with Supportive Solutions?

No. Many of our best caregivers started with no formal experience beyond caring for their own family. Before your first shift, we pair you with a care coordinator. Experience or a CNA certificate can qualify you for more complex clients and higher pay, but it is not required to apply.

Can I get paid to care for my own family member instead of taking agency shifts?

Yes. If your loved one has Michigan Medicaid and needs help with daily activities, the Home Help program pays you as their caregiver. Supportive Solutions handles the eligibility check, assessment request, CHAMPS enrollment and EVV setup. Start on our become a paid caregiver page.

Are caregiver jobs available outside Detroit?

Yes. We have clients in Dearborn, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Flint, Lansing and Grand Rapids, plus surrounding communities. Tell us your city and how far you are willing to travel, and we match you with nearby clients. Ohio positions will open when our Ohio service launches.

How quickly can I start working?

Once your application is in, the main steps are the MDHHS background check, CHAMPS enrollment and onboarding training. Applicants who submit complete documents and respond quickly to our calls start soonest. We begin CHAMPS enrollment right away so the paperwork is not what holds you back from your first assignment.

What documents do I need to apply?

Bring a government photo ID, your Social Security number, proof that you can work in the United States, your current address and bank details for direct deposit. If you hold a CNA, HHA, CPR or first-aid certificate, include a copy. Family caregivers should also have their loved one’s Medicaid ID if it is available.
