Home Care by Condition in Michigan

Get Started Today

We reply to every inquiry within 24 hours. Our team is available every day from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Michigan Medicaid pays for home care based on what help a person needs with daily life, not on their diagnosis. Still, every condition brings its own routines, risks and questions. These guides explain what home care looks like for each one, which Michigan programs pay for it, and whether a family member can be the paid caregiver.

Key takeaways

  • Home Help qualifies people by functional need: hands-on help or cueing with daily activities like bathing, dressing and moving around.
  • Any disability covered under Michigan Medicaid can qualify, at any adult age.
  • A relative or friend can usually be the paid caregiver; a spouse, or the parent of a child under 18, cannot be paid through Home Help.
  • We place only caregivers whose training and certifications match the person’s condition and needs.

Find care for a condition

Don’t see your loved one’s condition?

The list above covers the conditions families ask us about most, but it is not the limit. We work with any disability covered under Michigan Medicaid, from multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease to COPD, amputation, blindness and spinal cord injury. What matters is the help your loved one needs each day. Call (313) 977-6888 and we will tell you which program fits.

How we match a caregiver to a condition

Whether a family member becomes the paid caregiver or we place one of our caregivers, we look at the condition and the daily routine first. A person recovering from a stroke needs safe transfers and patience with speech. A person with autism often needs the same caregiver at the same times. A person with heart failure needs meals that follow the diet their doctor set. We place caregivers whose training and certifications fit those needs, and we speak English, Arabic and Spanish.

Our home care is non-medical personal care. Skilled care such as wound care, injections or therapy comes from Medicare home health or hospice, and many families use both. Read home care vs. home health care in Michigan to see the difference.

What Supportive Solutions handles for you

We help families of people with disabilities covered by Michigan Medicaid get paid for the care they already give, or we find and place a trained caregiver in the home. We are an enrolled MI Choice Waiver provider and we serve all of Michigan.

  1. Eligibility and Medicaid

We check eligibility and, if your loved one is not on Medicaid yet, help you apply.

  2. Assessment

We prepare you for the Home Help or MI Choice assessment so the real level of need is recorded.

  3. Caregiver enrollment

We enroll the caregiver in CHAMPS and set up EVV (electronic visit verification).

  4. Paying the caregiver

We pay the caregiver. The first paycheck typically arrives about 30 days after approval.

  5. Or we place a caregiver

No one in the family available? We place a background-verified, CHAMPS-enrolled caregiver with training that matches your loved one's needs.

  6. Ongoing support

Reassessments, changes in hours and appeals, with one team you can call every day from 8 AM to 8 PM.
